Stress management Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1
Stress management - Research Paper Example Moreover, studies reveal that when two different people are exposed to the same job situation, the one who is overwhelmed suffers physiological consequences more than the one who is not overwhelmed (Fried et al, 2009: 3-4). Indeed, job related stress is affecting many workers across the globe, and America is no exception - several research findings attest to this. One of the studies conducted by Northwestern National Life has that, one of four employees perceive their jobs as the leading stressors. Another study conducted by Saint Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company asserts profoundly that that ââ¬Å"problems at work are more strongly associated with health complaints than any other life stressor, even financial or family problemsâ⬠(Fried et al, 2009: 3-4). Yet, another published article by the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine indicates that the probability of injury and risk at the work place was likely common for employees working over or 12 hours by 37% (Fried et al, 2009: 4). Overall, stress results into reduced job performance and actualization, decreased creativity, and enhanced chances of crises and friction. Interestingly, this lead to more stress (Fried et al, 2009: 3-4). It then follows that stress management techniques such as yoga, mediation, breath exercise and counseling play an instrumental role to human-health. Undeniably, stress should thus not be ignored at the work place because ignoring stress signals result into fatigue and sometimes harm. Simply defined, tress management refers to the lessons that aid in the appreciation that stress is part and parcel of life everyday. It focuses on what can be done to manage and control stress. Work has been defined as ââ¬Å"the exertion of undertaking mental or physical activity for a purpose or out of necessityâ⬠(Stranks, 2005:66). Oftentimes, work is designed to achieve some goals. Work stress has been associated to begin with loss of foresight, and

The Magna Carta Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
The Magna Carta - Essay Example Historical records stated that King John considered these rights granted to the nobility are done under duress (National Archives and Records Administration, 2012, p. 1). Until these days, the Magna remained significant for human rights advocacies and for its defenders because this was the first document which challenged the monarchical power of the King and systemically becomes the legal foundation against feudal relations -- that ââ¬Ëno man should be above the law (National Archives and Records Administration, 2012, p. 1).ââ¬â¢ The document expressly stated, "No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled except by the lawful judgment of his equals or by the law of the land (National Archives and Records Administration, 2012, p. 1)." The Magna Carta has therefore dismantled the kingââ¬â¢s feudal control over lands in England and its professed power of such elitist rule of the hierarchy where barons directly report to the King in the performance of their responsibilities (National Archives and Records Administration, 2012, p. 1). ... 1; Walenta, 2010, p. 1). At the utmost, these principles are embed in universal declaration of human rights and in the Constitution of United States of America. Mulligan (2004) opined that the Magna Carta also ushered positive reform in legislation of laws and paved for the restoration of legal and political institutions after that tragic period of civil strife and social degeneration brought by social inequities and tyrannical control (pp. 41-65). This was affirmed by King Henry I and those subsequent rulers. Expert scholars considered the document as the best enduring legacy to humankind because those principles strengthened the institutionalization of universal concepts of legal doctrines on judicial procedures that aided in the protection and promotion of civil rights. Franklin D. Roosevelt has succinctly expressed in his 1941 inaugural address when he stated that the Magna Carta is the written document that integrated the democratic aspiration in human history (National Archives and Records Administration, 2012, p. 1). When the Declaration of Independence was sealed and signed as the American Charters of Freedom in 1776, the great Fathers recognized the Magna Carta as the historical context in asserting their liberty from King George III and the English parliament (National Archives and Records Administration, 2012, p. 1). They honoured that meeting of 40 barons and King John 561 years earlier at Runnymede, now home of the Windsor Castle, where barons finally considered themselves as freemen and later became an inspiration for Americans. They have likewise earned the reconfirmation of Henry Iââ¬â¢s Coronation Oath and hence limited the Kingââ¬â¢s access to resources and funds. At that time, this charter was only

Description and comparison of Women's colonial dresses for daily work Essay
Description and comparison of Women's colonial dresses for daily work and outings - Essay Example They often put on a shawl to hide a part of the exposed neckline. The lower garment was very heavy and full. During the earlier period, women used to put on one or more petticoats underneath the dress to give it the characteristic wide shape. Petticoats were worn to offer warmth. There was a turn in the 1700`s, women began to put on hoops which had been made of whalebone underneath these skirts and dresses. For the next couple of years that followed, hoops of diverse forms were a frequent phenomenon of womenââ¬â¢s clothing (Erickson 125). Characteristically long dresses also referred to as Mantua were worn during this time. They were mostly put on during the evening for charity events, balls and when on outings. These gowns were comprised of a bodice that enclosed a corset. In addition, ribbons, nettings and laces decorated the dresses. Mature women wore short-sleeved dresses that were low cut thus revealing the bosom. On the other hand, young girls were often advised not to reveal their cleavage. The skirts and dresses were ankle long and covered the petticoat though it was still visible at the hemline. Whenever women were outdoord, flat hats with wide brims and bonnets were worn. The very first Mantuaââ¬â¢s emerged during the late 17th century as a more comfortable option to the separate skirts and the boned bodices that were popular at the time. Its basic features were cuffed sleeves, elbow length and the overskirt was characteristically drawn back over the hips to reveal the petticoat underneath. In the mid 1700s, the Mantua had changed to a more official variation that was worn for court dress. The overskirt draping became progressively more stylized, and the back panel nearly became hidden (Fisher 56). Even though the woman`s dress was basically and widely worn, it had quite a number of variations. For the women who worked, theirs was a plainer garment that was made of wool, linen, or heavy cotton. This was so because these fabrics

Kozyndan as a collaboration of the artwork by two artists Essay
Kozyndan as a collaboration of the artwork by two artists - Essay Example They generally draw Panoramas and insert absurd things, considering them to be the whole western notion and have made this their central theme. Commonly known as mad scientists from Los Angeles who are working on a secret formula for controlled nuclear fusion like to take long and deep breaths and dip their heads in raspberry jelly and lemon curd bowls just for fun. They live indoors and don't paint on the walls. They mainly draw panoramas and bring a distinct Asian flavour in most of their work. Their products are perfect examples of new art and the freshness and newness in their work aggravates the urge to know and understand every stroke of the painting. On being asked to describe their work Kozy said: "We want to make stuff that will make people smile a bit. These pieces so far are not so deep - we have been restraining ourselves, though some of our... frustrations we have with what we see around us peep through from time to time. There is some sort of a theme of conflict between the industrialized world and nature. We prefer animals and the natural world to people any day, yet we are wholly sucked into the modern technological world. This kind of just shows up in our work from time to time - it's not a conscious thing. Typically we just think of something that is funny to us, but then looking back at the completed piece it usually has something to do with man's careless disregard for this hunk of rock we live on." This dynamic duo is having their first LA solo show of the year from May 7th to June 4th. Kozyndan paintings have been able to convey their message quite convincingly. They have also brought to light Kozy's narrow and focused eye on every detail of the aspect of their paintings. Kozy and Dan like to illustrate anything and everything out of the ordinary. They have both majored in Illustration and have specialised in digital artwork. Giant Robot magazine gave kozyndan their first break, setting up their first art show, printing their illustrations, and selling their merchandise at the Giant Robot store. Kozy and Dan offer a wide range of artwork including the illustrations, designs, comics and photography. Their works are available very easily across the globe. There are various museums, websites and shops that provide artwork by Kozyndan. Although, it is still believed that these places can not be compared with the variety of articles offered by the Kozyndan shop in LA. Kozy and Dan are married to each other and share their success together. They work in unison and respect and appreciate each other's works. Kozy does the detailed and the intricate drawings. While she works on the backgrounds Dan figures the roles and other details of the characters involved. Then Kozy redraws the sketches in her own style and adds even her own sketches. It is after this that Dan compiles all the characters into the original background and then they paint the pictures. Both of them are animal and nature freaks. In fact they have

Response to both students with at least 3 references. each response must state the name of the student at the beginning and the reference immediately after the response - Coursework Example Generally, my view is that society and policy must reach some form of consensus in order to avoid conflict of a mismatch between social realities and policy structures. I agree with your opinion that public policy could be used to affect social change just like social change can provide the necessary pressure to create appropriate policy. I base my support on the fact that social change and public policy are connected as causative agents of each other (Den Hond & De Bakker, 2010; Lempert & Light, 2009). Essentially, social change involves the development of visionary structures that would guide the process towards the desired ends. Policy frameworks are built within these structures. The examples of Cesar Chavez of Union Farm Workers and Max Hellerââ¬â¢s Greenville 2005, The Journey Forward, are suitable illustrations of the role of policy as the provider of operational mechanism of social change (Greenville Forward, 2012; United Farm Workers, 2012). I also back your view that policy provides the visionary framework that determines the course of social change. In the two cases you have cited, the vision of the two individuals were condensed into meaningful policies that supported the processes of social change. Den Hond, F., & De Bakker, F. G. Phase 3 Behavioral Economics IP Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Phase 3 Behavioral Economics IP - Essay Example A good example of a technological change is computers. Computers were invented early in the 19th century but they are still being improved. This improvement is what is referred as innovation. Computers are now used that ever before in all aspects of life from communication, production, security operations, management and education. This is now the diffusion of the use of computers. In the case of a bread factory, technological change is important to ensure that profits are maximized while costs are kept at minimum. In the bakery, I would use modern bread making technology that reliably increases the output of quality bread. This ensures that costs of substandard breads are reduced. To cut labor costs I would use computer controls and automation in the production processes. 2 (a) Develop a table that you believe shows the explicit fixed costs of the bread factory and the total amount of the costs. Explicit fixed costs Costs ($) Office equipment 1000 Heat & light 120 Programmerââ¬â¢ s salary 540 rent 400 insurance 250 Cleaning supplies 100 Total 2410 2 (b). Describe your variable costs Variable costs are costs that change with change in volume of production (Tucker, 2011). In the bread factory, variable costs include the costs of yeast, flour, packaging material and costs of hiring casual laborers. 3. Because you are not an expert yet on analyzing costs and optimal production levels, you decide to do a very simple analysis of your short-run fixed and variable costs if you expand. You decide that your only fixed cost will be the ovens and the variable costs will be the workers.à Quantity of Workers Quantity of Ovens Quantity of Loaves of Bread Produced Cost of Ovens Cost of Workers Per Week Total cost Average total cost = total cost/no. of breads Marginal product of labor = change in output/ unit change of labor Average product of labor = quantity/labor 0 2 0 500 0 500 0 0 0 1 2 50 500 450 950 19 50 50 2 2 125 500 900 1400 11.2 75 62.5 3 2 210 500 1350 1850 8 .8 85 70 4 2 300 500 1800 2300 7.7 90 75 5 2 410 500 2250 2750 6.7 90 82 6 2 550 500 2700 3200 5.82 140 91.7 7 2 625 500 3150 3650 5.84 75 89.3 8 2 660 500 3600 4100 6.2 35 82.5 9 2 700 500 4050 4550 6.5 40 77.8 10 2 730 500 4500 5000 6.85 30 73 a. Calculate the total cost and the average total cost, and add it to the table. b. Calculate the marginal product of labor, and add it to the table. c. Calculate the average product of labor, and add it to the table. 4. Although there seems to be a great demand for your bread, why would productivity decline when you hire more labor in the short run? Short run is a relatively short period of time in which a company makes temporary changes in the operations. In the bread factory, it requires more time and effort to bake one loaf of bread than it would take on average to bake more loaves of bread. The more laborers you hire the more the number of loaves produced. However, as you hire more and more workers, the benefit-derived from each additio nal employee will eventually decline. The reason behind this is that the marginal product of labor of each additional employee declines in the short run leading to diminishing marginal return (Taylor & Weerapana, 2012).
